There is currently an exhibition of outdoor Spielgeräte (LEO's translation = playground equipment, there's got to be a better translation that I can't think of) in Mannheim's Luisenpark, and Liam was there today to try things out. And I don't think there is a better word than playground equipment- cumbersome as it seems.
